Project Description

Want to improve your six-pack? Just laugh!

It really is this simple.

Do you love to laugh? (I do!) Whether it is a chuckle, a bubbling giggle, or when you erupt into a full-on belly laugh, have you ever noticed the rush of good feelings you get afterwards? Could it be that your whole body is laughing? For me, after a good and sustained laugh, I can visualize all of the cells throughout my body with their own little yellow smiley faces.

Now … did you know that the physical action of laughter is actually considered exercise? Yep, true story. When we laugh, our physical, mental, and emotional bodies all get the benefit due to the endorphin boost we receive. In particular, the deep breathing we use when we laugh is not only a whole-body work out, it targets our core of belly, heart, and lungs.

Laughter Yoga is not about stretching or posing or holding a warrior stance. It is also not about finding the right joke or loading up your favorite comedy skit. It is an exercise that, once you start, you will giggle yourself silly — even begin to laugh the blues away. You can certainly Laughter Yoga alone, but it is best done in groups, and there are groups for you to laugh with all around the world. Check one of the below links to find a group near you.

Let’s be honest, life can be great. It can also be incredibly difficult, even seem to kick when we’re down. Many have found through Laughter Yoga that, whether you’re having the best day or your worst, laughter as an exercise makes a good day better, and takes the edge off those days that are just meh.

Why Laughter Yoga?

Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the Laughter Yoga movement which he started in 1995 in Mumbai, has made the exercise of laughter his life’s work.

Dr. Kataria’s research has found that to reap the benefits of laughter exercise, it is best to laugh daily and at intervals which will total five minutes. Yet it isn’t always easy to find reasons to laugh, or for a sustained period of time, and jokes don’t always work. Hellooooo Laughter Yoga! The exercises used in Laughter Yoga — based on the yogic breath … no downward dog poses here — are specifically targeted to tickle your funny bone in the most efficient time.

This app has been voluntarily designed for use by the Laughter Yoga U.S.A. team (a non-profit and branch of LaughterYoga.org) of every-day laughers, Laughter Yoga Ambassadors, and Laughter Yoga club leaders.

Craving more hard data on the benefits of laughter?

Check out Patch Adams? Dr. Adams quantifiably helped countless hospitalized children and adults to ease into better health simply through the gift of laughter.
